Probiotics FAQs

How do you make homemade yogurt?

The process is quite simple.  You will heat milk to 180F, bring it back down to a suitable temperature for the bacteria to grow, add the culture, and keep it warm for 6-8 hours until the yogurt sets.  We include our Know-How (recipe) with every purchase, and we're always available to answer questions and troubleshoot.

What is kefir and why would I want to drink it?

Kefir is a yogurt-like beverage loaded with healthful probiotic bacteria.  It is thinner and slightly sweeter than yogurt and makes an excellent base for smoothies.

How long does homemade yogurt keep in the refrigerator?

An unopened container (usually a glass jar) of yogurt that was made using proper sanitary techniques will keep for 3-4 weeks of more.

Can I make Greek yogurt?

Absolutely.  Your homemade yogurt can be turned into Greek yogurt by straining it through cheesecloth.  It's that simple.  Greek yogurt is simply strained yogurt-- it's thicker and has more concentrated nutrition.
